BC Bike Race
Congratulations everyone who did the race!! It was very tense from the couch following the stage results! Pat, it's super impressive that you and your partner held 1st for so long and finished on the podium in such a close 2nd!! Amazing!!! Equally exciting was watching Jon and Eric bounce back after illness for the first couple of stages and work their way back up the pack! Trish and Craig, looks like you had some seriously tough competition for mixed! You two rock for finishing 4th!! I hope the riding was as awesome as it appears in the descriptions and photo gallery! Gerry--next year??? |

the riding at the BC Bike Race is unbelievable. Yes there's a day of gravel, but yes they are "working on that". Anyone who's a capable MOUNTAIN BIKER, ie. any deadgoat, would love this stuff. it's trails we'd ride for fun as much as a race course. Riding every trail on moose mountain, and the stunts up to 1.5' tall, is as important training as working the legs/lungs on the climbs. the food blew me away, the quanity and quality of what the caterers were able to dish out was superior to any stage race I've been to. the climate was delightful. Somehow we avoided rain completely, although I suspect that's a bit of an anomaly. I'm not sure what more I can add... other than don't race it while taking azithomicyn! |

This race was amazing. I expected the best single track stage race in the world and it exceded my expectations. To give you an idea, the amount of single track per day would fall between the test of metal and the bow 80, probably closer to the bow 80 and the days are more technical than either of those. But it's not super hard technically, just medium hard, in fact the whole idea is to be the most fun race in the world as opposed to the hardest. The food was almost beyond comprehension. On one night they ran out of apple crisp dessert before I got any but I would rate each meal an 11 out of 10 and I could never finish all of mine?!! Competition level was probably above the 2007 TR, I think these races feed off each other's past success and therefore year 2 BCBR is like year 7 TR. Overall the demographic seemed younger, hipper, less euro. The rest was pretty similar to TR. Showers were the same, toilets weren't as plentiful, slide show was meager, tents were a little better, locations were more interesting, evenings start and end early, ferries were ferries. |

First stage race that I gained wt cause the food was so amazing. or maybe it was the upper body strength training exercises for hours each day on the demanding but very fun, singletrack. Rode more ramps - skinnies is the proper BC term, than ever thought possible and actually grew to like them, mind you they weren't wet. Best scenery moment: riding into Sechelt with the mts and water. |
