2009 road race in Rossland

Taken from the local online news. Start training on the hills for this one.

National cycling race coming to town
posted Jul/04/2008

Rossland has been picked as the host city for a national cycling event next May, representatives of the Canadian Cycling Association announced at a press conference Thursday.

Rossland will be the host city for racing events on May 23rd and 24th including a 180-km race from Rossland to New Denver and a 156-km circuit at Castlegar.

“The new ‘Tour de Kootenays’ will be the most important Canadian road race west of Quebec, and the most valuable road race in northwest North America in terms of race points,” said racing spokesman Bob Hennessy of Nelson.

Tourism Rossland’s Deanne Steven worked hard to get the 2009 races here. “I have been chasing it for a quite a while,” she said in an email Wednesday. “An event like this will help put the Kootenays on the map for road biking.”

Wow!
This sounds like it is for the elite of the elites in North American road cycling.
It will be interesting to hear more about this event.
