2008 Bearspaw Open: 07 August, Registration open soon
The 2008 Bearspaw Open circuit race will be running on Thursday August 7th, based out of the Bearspaw Lions Club on Nagway Rd. in NW Calgary, as part of the new Calgary BikeWeek. Open B (Cats 4/5 + Masters) is scheduled to start at 3:00pm for 80km. Open A (Cats 1/2/3) is scheduled to start at 5:15pm and run for 100km. We are also looking at adding an Open Citizen race to the 3:00 pm start slot. There is also going to be a BBQ dinner happening during the afternoon/evening races, with all proceeds going to the Olympic Oval Youth Development Program. This is a not-for-profit event, with proceeds being reinvested into the sport thru the Alberta Provincial Cycling Team. Registration is now open at http://www.midweek-mayhem.ca/bearspawopen/bearspawopen_reg.html. All entries include an awesome meal, with money from that portion of the entry fee going back to the Olympic Oval Youth Development program. The tentative schedule is up on the site as well. FYI, we've added a "youth racing donation" option. Any money donated will be pumped back into the Alberta Provincial Cycling team (focus is on U23 and under) and/or the Olympic Oval Youth Development Cycling program. This donation will also get you a meal at "Dinner & a Bike Race" that evening. Finally, there's a $10 "meal only" option for those that want to come out to watch the racing. Approximately 50% of the meal ticket gets kicked directly back into the Oval program. Finally, there is an Open Citizen category scheduled for 5:00 pm. ABA club members without a UCI road license can take part in this event. Standard road bike required. Sorry, no flat bars... it's an insurance thing.
