G'day Sybrena:
Your question shows you have good instincts. Moving from 1st person narrative to dialogue is a good goal. The theory is that "showing" is better than "telling". A conversation between characters, shows because it's interaction between two or more people, rather than just static text relating the same information.
Here's what I'll do. I'll post a sample of the same information presented in both forms. I'll give you a chance to review it, then I'll provide some information about the transition of one to the other.
