"Love?" His voice became high and shrill.
"Yes, love."
"You think it matters more than us – you, me, and all the others like us?"
"Yes, brother. I think it's all that matters. Because, I think, that when everything else is gone, love is what remains."
"And so I do this because I love him. And I warn you... touch him, cause others to touch him or cause any harm to come his way and I will hunt you down and kill you. Law or no law – I will kill you."

"You brought that on yourself. You mated with that pig and...."
Before he could finish, she was upon him. One hand gripped tightly about his throat, the other poised high, the air shimmering and hissing about it.
"Where you stand, brother. I swear I will suck the life from your body and leave you at our mother's doorstep if ever you speak of him that way again. Do you understand?"
He nodded, eyes bulging.
