Re: minerals

Hello Rachel,

All minerals are important and are generally supplied by a balanced diet that consists of all the forage a horse wants, plus a comprehensive vitamin/mineral supplement that fills in the gaps.

Minerals such as copper, zinc, manganese, selenium, calcium, magnesium, cobalt, iodine, potassium, and sulfur are often added to horse supplements. Iron is often not necessary and non-recommended since forage is high in iron. Sodium should be supplied by a plain, white salt lick or adding table salt to the feed.

Thank you for writing,

Dr. Getty
