Unaware of TILMA untilma recently
I, like many, only found out about TILMA recently. Similar to what the BC Government is doing with BC Hydro, this one is more or less beneath the radar. MLA Michael Sather proposed a motion in the legislature on March 5th to allow open debate on TILMA. It was voted down, 40 - 25. I am sure the vast majority of people have no idea what this means. I am passing information to my lists--including StopTilma.com URL. |

Thank you for your input. It is my intention, through this website, to inform (thanks to the excellent work and articles by the COC,CCPA and others) and to encourage citizens to raise their voices for choice and democracy and the freedoms both afford. Allowing private interests (by way of a 3-person pro-business panel) the power to rescind by-laws or regulations they deem 'restrict' or 'impair' investment and allowing compensation of up to $5,000,000 dollars for each and every 'restriction'and, by forcing governments to defend each and every regulation, is oppressive. It's meant to be. No municipality will be able to defend the onslaught of lawsuits by private interests and it will certainly go far beyond citizens' ability to pay. This is not a trade agreement but an investment agreement (U.S. businesses are already chomping at the bit because doing business here also allows them to supercede of our democratic rights courtesy of this faceless 3-person panel) and is the beginning of massive deregulation which will involve Canada, the U.S. and Mexico - The SPP Agreement. I encourage everyone to write or contact the mayor and council members in your community, write letters to the editor and contact your MLA's with your concerns. That fact that this was voted down (no surprise) should not discourage anyone. We must push for open debate and ultimately the demise of this onerous agreement. Janice |

TILMA = Greed by and for a few, But WE are many! The People of BC/Canada United Will Never Be Defeated! The only answer to organized money is organized people. The things that will destroy us are: politics without principle; pleasure without conscience; wealth without work; knowledge without character; business without morality; science without humanity; and worship without sacrifice: Mahatma Mohandas K. Gandhi DO NOT KEEP SILENT when your own ideas and values are being attacked. ...If a dictatorship ever comes to this country, it will be by the default of those who keep silent. We are still free enough to speak. Do we have time? No one can tell." -- Ayn Rand, Philosophy |

As We are at war in Afghanistan supposedly to bring Democracy to the Afghans (42+ Canadians dead) Yet WE at home here in BC/Canada are under attack by OUR own elected band of criminals and big business, wouldn't this constitute an Act of Treason against the people of BC/Canada by those who are trying to push TILMA through? |

Wayne, I read in your comments the same kind of frustration I, and I'm sure many other citizens are feeling. Just because this agreement has come into effect does not mean we stop. We have been betrayed by the very people elected into office by British Columbians. It is treason. When the liberals insist that all concerned parties were consulted, they deliberately leave out the most important group, and the ones who will be most affected by this agreement - citizens. The battle has just begun. Not only have we been betrayed by our provincial government, our federal goverment is set to do the same through the introduction of the Security Prosperity and Partnership Agreement - the SPP. If you think TILMA is bad, read up on what our federal government has in store. JC |
