Anomalocaris???? otherwise referred to as "Rods". Lately some reports say Anomalocaris (extinct?) is alive and well most believe this to be an insect, however Anomalocaris was a water dweller, much like a crab, and used its "wings" to move around in the water. Like I said new reports believe that the aforementioned is in the insectavora family. Maybe???

Replying to: I'm not sure how familiar your mother and stepfather are with the local wildlife there, but could it possibly have been a Cicada, periodical or otherwise? If you're not sure what they look like, try an image search on www.google.com. That's the only thing I can think of that might be what they saw, but I'll keep thinking.
Willie.

Replying to: My mom and step dad had an encounter yesterday morning with an interesting creature which defies anything I have ever heard of. I have posted a similar inquiry on another website, but have some updates to it on things I misunderstood when I talked to them originally. Here is the description they gave me:
3 to 4 inches long
resembled a crawfish
had a wingspan as wide as it's body is long
the wings were red (described by my mom as looking like you could see the blood flowing through them) and were flylike, in other words no feathers.
when they approached it, it got up on it's back legs (though they couldn't tell for sure if it had legs) and spread it wings. One deviation from the posting on the other website (want to make this clear it isn't a joke) that it didn't hiss at them.
I would love to know what this thing is or if anyone has heard of anything similar. This happened in Keene, TX about 50 miles from Dallas. Thanks! |
