Cryptozoology.com has an excellent article on how to become a cryptozoologist. Unfortunately, the site is down right now (10-24-2002) and might not be back online intil Nov. 1, 2002.

But I can offer you some ideas and thoughts on the mattter that might help.

Certainly, a basic grounding in one or more of the natural sciences will be helpfull:

Biology, paleontology, zoology, anthropology, etc. This will give you an idea of the various theories on how animals live, and an understanding of the scientific process.

Then there are the fields of how people view and perceive the world around them:

psychology, sociology, mythology, etc. This will help you understand hope people think and "see'.

And finally, a course or two in forensic science will be a great aid in learning how to collect evidence, and the unreliability of "eyewitness accounts".

As far as I know, there are no "professional" cryptozoologists. All work in other fields to pay their bills (some aren't even scientists!) Therefore, if you do a great deal of reading and learn how to properly collect and interpret evidence, you should be able to pursue a "career" in cryptozoology.

Just be prepared to receive a lot of odd looks and and a great deal of derision. Until you find something new and unusual. Then all those naysayers will suddenly become your most ardent supporters.

Can anyone tell me how to become a cryptozoologist. I have been looking into it for some time and I am greatly interested in it. Does anyone know of any sites or people to contact who could inform me on how to do this as a career?
