How do I create my site on a template I have chosen?

I am new to Bravenet. I do have another site through Site Build It. I use the block-by-block method with it. (www.plan-an-elegant-tea-party.com)

I just started on my new site with Bravenet today. I have picked out a favorite template I would like to use, but I can't seem to figure out how to put anything on it.

I found a place where it also asked me what style layout I would like to use and when I started to edit it, it was not the template I would like to use.

I am SO lost on how to go about this. Please help.

I want to use the template that is like a lime green with a picture of yellow butterflies at the top. I would also like to replace the butterfly picture with something more appropriate for my theme.

I would appreciate any help. Thanks,

JoAnn

Re: How do I create my site on a template I have chosen?

The question is a bit confusing. You don't create the site "on" the template. The template, basically, is your webpage, just without your content.

Open the file in whatever editor you prefer to use - notepad is all you really need. Then replace the nonsense text with your own.

Save as index.html.

Then - and only then - do you upload the files to your site. (Uploading a blank template only makes sense if you are very poor. In other words, if the only place you have computer access is a public library or some place where you are not allowed to save files on the computer. Then you are in the unfortunate position of being forced to use online editors)

Next step: Open the template file again, edit, save as something else (page2.html or whatever)

This is from the knowledge base, and applies if you are in the category alluded to by Corwings:

3. How do I use a template from my Templates service with my hosting service?
You will have to have the template that you would like to use in your "My Favorites" section first. To upload a template from your "My Favorites" section, please follow these steps:

1. Log into your Bravenet account
2. Click on "Web Templates"
3. Click on My Favorites
4. Click on the Template you would like to upload
5. Click on the check box "Upload support files:"
6. If you want to use the template as your front page, in the "HTML Filename" area, use the name "index.html"
7. In the "Hosting domain" area, select the domain name or subdomain name that you would like to upload the template to
8. Click "Upload Files"

You can then use the Visual Editor found inside your File Manager to edit your template.
