Sorry, I don't do javascripts. (Tried to change the subject so that those who do won't assume your question has been answered.)
But are you planning to use the images that are there now? Why don't you simple downsize them so that we can see the whole picture without scrolling? Opening in a new window won't make things any better. And if the "full size" image is even larger, there isn't really any sense in displaying it on a computer screen.
(But I'm assuming you forgot to mention a wish to use thumbnails (or something inbetween) as links. In which case you need help with your script)
Re: Re: Re:Javascript picture links (no solution yet)
Yes, I will be using thumbnails, but that is on a different screen. The thumbnails will point to the large image. Yes, I need to a photoshop script to make all the images the same size so they fit on a screen, but regardless, creating a link from the image isn't affected by the size of an image.
The reason I want to open the picture in another window is so the person can download the picture to their computer.
So, I will have the picture stored on the server: one thumbnail, one medium quality for the slideshow, and one full quality for download.
I don't think your photos need to be all of the exact same size. If you make the window dispalying the slideshow slightly larger than the largest photo then a small different in size will hardly be noticed. What you do need to change, though, is the mix of orientations (i.e. portrait and landscape orientations in the same slideshow). I assume you're thinking of adding more photos, so why not have one slideshow with only portrait oriented photos and one with only landscape.
As for downloading the photos to computers. Any viewed photo is already downloaded to the visitor's browser's cache. Should anyone want to save the photo to a different location all they have to do is right click it and choose 'Save photo as...' from the pop-up menu.
Speaking of pop-ups. Have you thought of putting the slideshows in pop-up windows? You can have buttons for the visitors to click to get next or previous photo enabling them to see each photo for as long as they like. It won't require any script at all. Click to see an example here
