How do I set up email forms?

Hi everyone,

I have a question. I am trying to set up an email form for a contest I am having on my web site. I have made it up on my Front Page Web Designer, but when I try to get it up and going, I get a message that says...

***This form cannot be configured to send results via email. The web site may belocated at a disk based location, or on a server that has not been ocnfigured to send email. Contact your system administrator, or Internet service provider for more information.***

So what exactly does that mean? I don't understand much about this stuff. I tried to do this email form through bravenet, but I couldn't understand the instructions. Can anyone help me? You can go to
restlesswindpublications.bravehost.com/contests.htm to see the form I'm trying to get set up to email. Any help would be sooo appreciated.

Re: How do I set up email forms?

I tried it, and I got a totally different error:

FrontPage Run-Time Component Page
You have submitted a form or followed a link to a
page that requires a web server and the FrontPage
Server Extensions to function properly.

This form or other FrontPage component will work
correctly if you publish this web to a web server
that has the FrontPage Server Extensions
installed.
Seems pretty clear.

It may seen clear to you, but since I'm not even sure what a web server extension is...

Can some one be a little more specific?

Re: How do I set up email forms?

One of the features of FrontPage is FrontPage Extensions. These are extensions to the HTML language and allow you to do things beyone standard HTML. The problem with FrontPage Extensions is that you need a server that supports them. Usually, only high end paid hosting support these extensions. On Bravenet, you need Premium hosting to have FrontPage Extensions supported.

So, in your case, the message is telling you that you are running a free web site and the server will not respond to you email form, because it is trying to use FrontPage Extensions. If you want to send a form, you will need to go back to using Bravenet's email form service. It's not that difficult to understand. All it should take is removing the FrontPage extensions, replacing the

tag, and than adding a couple of hidden tags. If you go to the Bravenet email forms, there is a sample form in their "copy-paste code" link. This will show you the tags you need.

You should probably disable FrontPage Extensions from within FrontPage, to prevent it from trying to create other code that will not work on a free site.

Thanks Martin,
That was a great help. I went back to using an email form, since I am just using the free service right now.
