I went to a franchise dealership that got a trade in just then. It was a 2005 Nissan with 80K. But there was a odometer inconsistency with the third owner. However the title was clean. Transmission was replaced under warranty at 60k mileage. Can the correct reading of the odometer be checked by a mechanic if there was a tampering. If the correct reading was reported to carfax, can we say the problem is fixed? Can I buy this vehicle. If so what will be the risk I am taking. The price quoted was 5.8K.

I am a member of " Automotive Forums " google the site and click on Nissan, you will get the answer you're looking for with regards to if there is a way to check if the odometer has been tampered with.

As for you buying the vehicle, are the steps in the website confusing ?
