What should I make of this?

I had been looking at what I will call Car A. I liked car A, but was hesitant to make an offer on it until I had a chance to to look at Car B in another city which had an option I liked. Well, car B turned out not to be so great, and car A (despite being a little more expensive) looked to be a fairly good deal.

So I decided that I would probably make an offer on car A at the end of the week (they had just advertised a price drop on it). Well, Car A suddenly was de-listed and appeared to have been sold. Now a few days later, I see that Car A is now listed for sale at another dealer across town (verified by VIN number).

Should I be worried about this, or is it that Dealer 1 couldn't sell it and passed/sold it on to dealer 2? My best estimate is that dealer 1 had it for about two months.

Thanks

Re: What should I make of this?

I guess I'll answer my one question somewhat. I was curious and looked up the two dealer's IP information (whois lookup) and it turns out that both dealers are apparently owned by the same parent company. Looks like perhaps it was a transfer to a different part of town to perhaps see if interest was better at a different location (though they did raise the price on it).

Re: What should I make of this?

Chances are very good that they did nothing more than shuffle their inventory. When I was the GM of a big store for Asbury in a market area where they had 8 different franchises we would meet monthly and buy/sell the cars that had been languishing on our agings and get some fresh 'non sellers' I would tend to be skeptical of this vehicle and would not buy it without having it inspected by your own person. Just depends what make model of car it is as to whether or not any concern is justified but the fact that it appeared across town on another lot belonging to the same dealer only tells you that for whatever reason the car didn't work at the store it was at. This happens to very good cars that don't fit into the dealers inventory mix very well (or at all) it also happens to cars with issues, cars with no a/c and cars painted pink. It may not be red flag material but is certainly worthy of yellow flag consideration...good luck!
