Stopping milk production

We just weaned our filly from our mare. My concern is the feeding for our mare at this time. Is there something we should do to help stop the milk production?

Re: Stopping milk production

Hi!

Your mare will eventually dry up on her own, now that there is no longer any demand for her milk. You'll want to reduce her overall feed intake to what she was eating before she was in foal, since she no longer has the extra caloric needs from lactation.
