Rice bran mash once a week a good idea?

In the winter, would it be a good idea to use a rice bran mash once a week?

Re: Rice bran mash once a week a good idea?

Hello Candace,

Rice bran is an excellent energy source, and can be offered once each week. But, it would be safer if you offered it every day. By feeding it daily, you allow for the development of bacteria that will digest it. It’s the same principle that’s involved in offering a new feed – you do it gradually so that the digestive system can adjust. So, when you only offer a feed item once each week, it puts a strain on the system and can result in digestive problems or even laminitis.

Excellent question! Thank you for writing,
