low carb feed

I hava a horse in my barn that is sinsitive to high carbs. It seems to make him founder. Can you tell me a low carb food.

Hi Suzanne,

Yes, you are correct about founder and carbohydrates –they do go hand-in-hand. I recommend Nutrena’s SafeChoice or Triple Crown’s Low Starch – both are excellent.

Or, if you prefer, you can mix your own diet with beet pulp, alfalfa, and stabilized rice bran. Add a good multiple vitamin/mineral formula and you’re set. If your horse has special needs, you may also wish to consider some other supplementation.
