soybean hay

Hi, I currently have five horses in work and as lucerne (alfalfa) is so expensive at the moment I was wondering what soybean hay was like to feed to horses. I know that soybean meal is a great feed for high energy but am not sure about the hay. Thanks

Re: soybean hay

Hello Beth,

Soybean hay is very dusty and for that reason, can cause respiratory problems for horses. So, wetting it down before feeding is preferable. It is also high in fat, which makes it a good energy feed. I recommend that you combine it with a grass hay, to balance out the amino acid profile.

All the best,
