Weight gain at grass

My mare tends to blow up like a beach ball when at summer grass. I saw an article somewhere, which suggested that a particular type of feed would reduce these effects. However, I cannot locate the article or find suitable feed. She is regularly exercised and the grazing is not excessive. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Weight gain at grass

Hi Lesley,

If your pasture contains a large amount of legumes (alfalfa or clover), this can lead to bloat. To reduce this, introduce them to this grass a little bit at a time and try to give them some dry hay before you turn them out.
