Re: free radicals

Hi Sharon,

Free radicals are highly volatile molecules that can destroy healthy cell membranes. They are produced under a variety of circumstances including stress, exposure to toxins, mold, pollution, and even intensive exercise.

The problem is when there are two many circulating in the bloodstream, causing cellular damage. Antioxidants have the ability to neutralize free radicals, which is why antioxidants are so important. Iron, in high quantities, can promote the oxidation of structural components within cell membranes, thereby leading the formation of too many free radicals. This is why I am reluctant to suggest iron supplements unless they are truly needed.

All the best,
