maintaining full stomach

Hello Dr. Getty

My horse's stomach is empty even if i feed him well so he can't be fattened what should I do?

Where are you from? philippines

Re: maintaining full stomach

Hello Herbert,

In between meals, you can offer him hay and/or pasture grass at all times. This is the healthiest situation of your horse. If he still cannot gain weight, you’ll want to add more fat to his diet. There are weight gaining supplements available, or you can feed flaxseed meal, stabilized rice bran, or even add some oil to his feed (approximately ¼ to ½ cup at each meal) – preferably flaxseed oil, or canola oil.

All the best,
