Re: underweight hore

Hello Salli,

I would suggest feeding more fat. This will put weight on him much faster than increasing carbohydrates. You might consider one of Bailey's conditioning feeds that has at least 5% fat. Or take a look at Allen and Page feeds -- Calm and condition looks appropriate.

One product that I often recommend to my clients is Ration Plus. This is a prebiotic that boosts the health of the bacterial flora, making digestion more efficient. This increases the nutritive value of the forages he eats. I do ship to the UK, however, the shipping would be on the high side. If you would like me to investigate shipping costs, please let me know.

Also, when feeding him, give him grass hay and/or pasture 24/7 along with some lucerne (alfalfa). This, too, will help him gain weight by improving the overall protein quality in his diet.

Keep me posted!

All the best,

Re: underweight hore

Hi Salli,

You wouldn't have to reduce his workload at all with Ration Plus. Unfortunately, it is not sold in England. So, I will get back to you with some more information on shipping.
