coming out of winter?

I am just curious. why does it matter if it is winter spring or fall.My horses always look the same.Is it because of no grass or something like that?It just baffles me.

Re: coming out of winter?

Hi Gladys,

For horses that rely on pasture throughout the spring and summer, their diet changes signficantly in the colder months as they switch over to just hay. But, in the hotter climates, they live on pasture plus hay, as a rule, since the pasture is not always very lush. But, in the northern areas, the pasture is quite rich and significantly different from their cold weather diets.

All the best,

Dr. Getty
