weanling filly

I was wondering what you would recommend Dr Getty to feed a 5 mo old QH filly to bring forth optimum results of growth. She was weaned the week after Memorial w/e and has shown no distress so far. She is a very nice filly showing alot of promise to be a serious halter candidate. I would like to give her a top rate chance. Thank you

Re: weanling filly

Hi Missy,

You are wise to take a close look at her diet. First, keep it low in starch. I like to also keep it simple. I would suggest simply feeding high quality grass hay, along with some alfalfa hay. For a meal, make a mixture of beet pulp, Nutra Flax (flaxseed meal), and a supplement designed for her growth needs. I like Mare/Foal IIP by MVP.

All the best,

Dr. Getty
