best feed

Im purchasing a 2 year old Appendix filly. She will be used for hunter under saddle and over fences. What would be a good feed for her? I want something that will help in her growth, but keep her energy level down. My older horse uses Ultium, but I dont know if I should put a 2 year old on that. Thanks

Re: best feed

Hi Sherry,

Ultium will be fine for your two year old. I would also recommend adding some alfalfa hay to her grass ration to boost her calcium intake and protein quality. And, some additional Lysine would be appropriate since she is still growing. I would recommend adding 8 grams of Pure Lysine.

Once you start training her, you should consider adding more vitamin E to her diet since complete rations are not high enough in this important antioxidant.

All the best,
