Feed selection and why on the following

Ok, I am looking for a low starch feed for my mare and most likely my gelding. Out of the following three, which would you use and why? I have included the guaranteed analysis (comparing them) and stating which is the highest in what mineral / vitamin.

Note that The feed that has the highest of all the other minerals / vitamins / etc lacks these four. What would you do?

Lysine = An essential amino acid, C6 H14 N2O2
Methionine = A sulfur-containing essential amino acid, C5 H11 NO2S
Threonine = A colorless crystalline amino acid, C4 H9 NO3
Biotin = A colorless crystalline vitamin, C10 H16 N2 O3S

Re: Feed selection and why on the following

Hi Cynthia!

You certainly did a lot of typing!!

The main factor in making a decision is the ingredient list, rather than the nutritional analysis. Any of these, if they are truly low starch, could be appropriate. The amount to feed needs to be taken into consideration along with the calorie needs of your horse, overall health, exercise level, amount and type of hay consumed, and more.

So, while I would be happy to answer your question, I really need more information that I can only obtain by spending some time with you over the phone. So, if you are agreeable, let's consider making an appointment.

All the best,

Dr. Getty

Thanks! I will look over my schedule (I am going to be down for 6 weeks with surgery) and get on your schedule. It will be a wise $109 spent.
