How long to soak alfalfa cubes

Dr. Getty:

If you feed alfalfa cubes, about how long should they soak before you feed them? Until they break all apart, or not quite that long? Do you know about what ratio of water/alfalfa it takes to rehydrate?

THANKS!

Re: How long to soak alfalfa cubes

Hi Nancy,

I don't have a formula regarding the amount of water to add, but it's not critical. See what works best and you can measure it to provide you with a "recipe" for the next time.

Regarding the amount of time -- I have found that alfalfa cubes take approximately 15 minutes to soak when using warm/hot water. You want them to still have some chew value, but be wet enough to have softened.

All the best,
