started chewing wood ...and manure

One of my yearling fillies has begun to chew wood recently and I saw her "nibbling" on manure today. She is the one the vet doesn't want to get any bigger than she is.

She gets:
hay free choice 24/7
nutraflax
accel
6 cups daily of blue seal trotter (low carb)
plain salt block
fresh water

I was reading about Quiessence and wondered if it would be helpful..but how much and could it be taken with Accel? Or what would you suggest.

Thanks

Re: started chewing wood ...and manure

Hi MJ,

You could feed Quiessence with Accel, without any problem. Offer 1 to 2 ounces per day, depending on her size.

Try Quiessence first. If this is not effective, then add a B Complex (BPlex) to her diet. This, too, is fine with Accel.

Keep me posted!

All the best,

P.S. In addition to borderline nutrient deficiences, wood chewing and manure eating can simply be due to boredom. She might enjoy a toy!
