Laminitis supplements

Hi Dr. Getty,

I noticed you recomend PreOxor or Laminex to a horse prone to laminitis. Would you give either of these to the horse with her regular supplements or use as the only supplement?

Thank you,
Kelly

Re: Laminitis supplements

Hi Kelly,

PreOx or Laminex should be fed alone since they are both complete vitamin/mineral supplements.

Thank you Dr. Getty.

I hope you don't mind if have another question.

If I start my mare on either Laminex or Preox, should I discontinue the Quiessence and the B-Plex?

Re: Laminitis supplements

Hi Kelly,

If you use PreOx, you won't need B Plex, since PreOx is already high in the B vitamins. You can keep B Plex on hand, however, for stressful situations when you need more B vitamins. Using Quiessence with PreOx is fine.

If you use Laminex, you won't need BPlex either for the same reason. And, if you feed 2 ounces, twice each day, you'll be providing 6210 mg of Magnesium. So, you would adjust your Quiessence supplementation. Each one ounce scoop of Quiessence has 5,000 mg of magnesium.

So, it depends on how much Quiessence you're feeding, to determine how much less you'd need while feeding Laminex.

Hope this helps!
