Aspirin

I have been reading up on laminitis in desperate hopes to make my 8yr olds life as sound and useful as possible. I've read that you don't like bute and to use aspirin. How much aspirin do you recommend?

Re: Aspirin

Hi Kelly,

I recommend giving between 2,000 and 7,500 mg (7.5 grams)of aspirin twice daily. Aspirin is easier on the stomach (though long term usage can cause ulcers just like bute). It also reduces thromboxane production which therefore, reduces restriction of blood flow.

I think it is always a good idea to have a tube or two of Aspir-Ease Gel 3X on hand in your horse medicine kit.

All the best,
