Worming - ivermectin/praziquantel

Dr. Getty, I'm back again for some of your sage advice. I saw where you recommended daily worming with twice year pastes, ivermectin and ivermectin/praziquantel. We had a bad reaction to Equimax which is ivermectin/praziquantel and wondered what you might use instead. We've had no reactions to Panacur, Equell or Strongid. Also, does your recommendation hold true for minis?

Many, many thanks!!! Pam

Re: Worming - ivermectin/praziquantel

Hi Pam,

Ivermectin preparations vary in their concentration levels. Perhaps one that is lower, such as IverEase, which you add to the feed one time (it's not a daily wormer), may be better tolerated.

Moxidectin is also an option. Panacur and Strongid won't get rid of bots. I'm not familiar with the drug content of Equell.

Yes, the same goes for minis, but the dosage, of course, would be adjusted for their size.

Hope this is helpful!

All the best,

Dr. Getty
