What can you tell me about beardless wheat hay? Is it good alone? Good for a pregnant mare? My horses look and feel better on it than they did on straight grass. Thanks.

Re: feed

Hello Kelly,

Beardless wheat hay is generally higher in starch since it is a grain hay. Also, it is relatively low in calcium, which makes it not such a good choice for a pregnant mare. You may want to supplement it with alfalfa for this reason.
