poor coat quality

We are leasing a 14 yr old Dutch gelding and his coat is very long and dull. I clipped him a month ago and need to clip again. A month ago it was very thick. Apparantly it was like this last year but normal before this. He has been tested for Cushings and Thyroid. Other than the fact he won't fully shed out and his coat coming in isn't glossy and is long he seems normal and healthy and tolerating the training and competing at Prix St Georges fine. His diet is bermuda grass hay, ultium, actiflex and electrolytes as well as aloe vera and slippery elm.

Re: poor coat quality

Hello Elizabeth,

I assume that his testing for cushings came back negative. However, he could be "pre-cushinoid" and I would highly recommend that you put him on a supplement called Cush Alleve. This will very likely have a beneficial effect on his symptoms. And, it would lessen any likelihood of him developing laminitis.
