mare in foal

hey i was wondering if any one knonw the sings of a mare being in foal i have has my mare for 7 moths and people down my yard have said she looks in foal
any help please

Nicole,
Sometimes "fat" can look like "pregnant", and the pregnant ones can hide it well. The easiest thing is to have the vet come out and palpate her. Then you'd know if she's bred and about how far along. Pam S

Hello Nicole,

The only try way to truly know is to have your vet palpate her, as Pam suggested.

You will likely find the book, The Complete Foaling Manual, very helpful. It has many photos and is written in easy to understand language. It will answer your questions about what to expect, what is normal and what is not, and how to take care of the newborn foal and its dam.
