Medications

I was looking at my monthly board invoice and I noticed that my horse was given Methocarbamol and Banamine five times in the month of October, without my knowledge. He was also given omeprazole twice that month and Gastrocote at the horse show. Does he really need to get all of these medications this frequently each month? He was never getting stuff like this every month before we moved to this barn, and I am somewhat uncomfortable with him getting some of these drugs, like methocarbamol and banamine, so frequently. Can you tell me how you feel about this? Thanks so much!

Re: Medications

Hi Ellen,

I strongly recommend that you consult with your veterinarian about the appropriateness of these medications for your horses. And, certainly, you should be kept informed of any medications that your horse receives. Did you sign a medical release allowing your barn manager to administer drugs to your horse without your knowledge?

Good luck with this.
