Chronic stiffness in my 12-year old Arabian

Dear Dr. Getty:

I am very confused about which joint supplement to order for my 12-year old Arabian gelding. I ride him 4 times a week & this year he seems a bit stiff going to the right. He limbers up once he is warmed up & still maintains his great attitude even with a slight head bobbing going to the right. I have him on Joint Combo & MSM currently. I suspect he has some arthritis from our cold climate.

Sincerely,
Margaret Mooridian

Re: Chronic stiffness in my 12-year old Arabian

Hello Margaret,

Since your current joint supplement is not doing a complete job, consider going with Actiflex. It comes in a liquid and a powder. There is also a senior version that is beneficial for horses that need extra fat in their diets.

Actiflex has the traditional ingredients that you find in joint supplements (glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM) but it also contains Hyaluronic Acid, Collagen, Perna Canaliculus, and Boswellia Serrata to ease inflammation, and hence pain. It also contains omega 3 fatty acids which further reduce inflammation.

Thank you for writing and please keep me posted.

All the best,
