Re: Rice Hull bedding

Hi Pam,

I've heard about rice hull bedding and I like it! It absorbs urine quickly and does not smell. And, the best part is that it doesn't seem to be dusty, so it can be used in a closed barn situation.

Sure, horses will "investigate" it at first to see if it's something yummy to eat. But, they typically, as you mentioned, do not eat much. And, it won't hurt them -- it's digestible fiber.

The only company I know of is Perma Stall Plus. Do you have another brand name you use?

All the best,

Re: Rice Hull bedding

Thank you, Dr. Getty, for you comforting words. Yes, that's the brand I'm using. They don't seem to pick at it any longer, and that's good. It's been two weeks since I first put it down and it's been a positive experience all around.
Take care,
Pam

Re: Rice Hull bedding

Hi Pam,

I'm delighted that you are finding this bedding helpful! Do you get it locally, or do you have it shipped to you?

I've been thinking about offering it, but shipping might not be cost effective.

All the best,

Re: Rice Hull bedding

Dr. Getty,
Right now I'm getting it locally. I'm sure you can contact Sheri www.Permastallplus.com for help. It's been 3 weeks since I put it down and just refreshed it with 1/2 a bag. I think it could have gone another week or so, but we're expecting bad weather in the next few days and I'd just as soon not have to haul it in the rain. Good luck. I know you'll like it and they're looking to expand the business. And I'd like for it to be around for a long time.
Pam
