Re: Beet Pulp for an easy keeper?

Hi Christy,

Beet pulp is an excellent choice for an overweight horse because it does not raise blood insulin levels. You only want to feed a small amount, simply to act as a carrier for her supplements.

You could go with a commercial feed such as Purina Wellsolve, but it's not necessary. You're not feeding it according to directions for added calories, just as a supplement carrier, so why pay for the fortification of other vitamins and minerals? You're already feeding Reitsport HA-100 Complete, so beet pulp is the answer.

Glad you're no longer feeding 100% alfalfa.
