Appetite stimulants?

Is there such a thing as appetite stimulants?

Often when I get rescues or new horses in they lack appetite, or turn their nose up at my high fat grain.

I tried Lycopodium homeopathic and sometimes that works. I really want to pack on the pounds and want them to eat hay all day. Any suggestions?

Currently feeding Poulin grain 10:12 to protein sensitive hard keepers with soy oil and rice bran pellets as tolerated, and to the seniors Triple crown senior, oil and rice bran pellets as tolerated.

They all get free choice first cut grassy timothy hay, and have white and red salt & mineral blocks, in and out individual turnouts and clean fresh water.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks! PS- Love your board!

Re: Appetite stimulants?

Hi Christine,

Yes -- the best appetite stimulant are the B vitamins. Go with a double dose (two ounces) of BPlex, a comprehensive B complex without the iron found in other B complex preparations. Iron is not a good idea for most horses since they already get plenty in pasture and hay.
