Re: Vetch

Hello Lori,

Thank you for your patience. There is so much conflicting information about vetch, that I recommend that you not feed it. It appears to be safe for ruminants (cows, sheep, goats, llamas, etc.) but not for horses. Apparently it is fed in other countries without consequence. But, when given a choice, horses seem to avoid it. Therefore, I recommend you avoid it, as well.

All the best,

Lori
Hello Dr. Getty, Thank you for having this forum open to all of us horse lovers. I have a question for you about vetch. I have heard conflicting information about it being toxic to horses. Do you happen to know if it really is? I just bought some hay and have had some previously as well that has this in it. I heard the seeds in the vetch pods are toxic and can lead to blindness, do you know if that is true?

Thank you in advance,
Lori
