Re: amplify by purina

Hi Shelley,

My only concern would be if your horse had an ulcer (which 90% of racehorses have) because Amplify is high in soybean oil (which is high in omega 6 fatty acids -- they increase inflammation). It does contain flax, and it says that there is a "favorable Omega3:Omega6 ratio" but I can't tell exactly what that is from the label. I would recommend adding some flaxseed meal -- say 1 scoop (1/2 cup) of Nutra Flax to this mixture to bring the omega 3s higher than omega 6s.

Give him some alfalfa hay, if possible -- about 1 flake for every two of grass hay. And give him grass hay free choice -- never running out.

Finally, feed the hindgut bacteria by offering a prebiotic -- this will aid in his weight gain. Ration Plus is a good choice.

Keep me posted.

All the best,
