Beet pulp

Is it acceptable to feed beet pulp to a horse with laminitis (no rotation)?

Re: Beet pulp

Hello Liz,

Beet pulp is an excellent choice for a horse that has developed laminitis (due to insulin resistance). It is low in sugar and starch and has almost as many calories as oats without the insulin response that oats (and other starchy feeds) would produce. The goal is to lower insulin levels since high insulin = laminitis. Therefore, beet pulp is a perfect choice. And also makes a good carrier for any supplements you want to add.

All the best,
