Fodder Feeder

Has anyone tried the Fodder Feeder grown your own feed from barley sprouts - hydroponic system?

Where are you from? Aztec, NM

How did you locate this forum? Have purchased supplements from Dr. Getty for several years.

Hello Becky,

I have not. But my concern is that barley (a cereal grain) and its sprouts, are likely high in non-structural carbohydrates (NSC). Therefore, if this is the case, it would not be appropriate for an insulin resistant horse (one that is overweight, has had laminitis, or has Cushing's). For those horses, a %NSC should be less than 12%.

For otherwise healthy horses, I would expect that it could be fed in moderation, as part of an overall diet, but not the entire source of forage.
