Re: vitamin/mineral supplement & does my horse need a joint supplement

Hello Gina,

Thank you for writing. I wouldn't recommend feeding both High Point plus Glanzen Lite because you will have overlaps. But you can feed High Point plus Nutra Flax to provide plain flaxseed meal. These two would make an excellent combination.

About a joint preparation, the best prevention is to fill in all the gaps that exist with hay (which you would do with High Point plus Nutra Flax) along with providing a high quality protein. If you are only feeding a grass hay, add some alfalfa to the mix. These two, together, will boost the overall quality of the protein giving him the building blocks to produce healthy joint tissue.

As a performer, he does need extra vitamin E, so consider an additional 2,000 IU by offering SuPer E Natural. Or, you can go with one product that has it all -- flax, plus vitamins and minerals, and extra E -- Glanzen Complete.

All the best,

Author of Feed Your Horse Like A Horse

Hi Dr. Getty,
I want to change my horse's feed and I think I narrowed down what to use. My horse is a 7 year old KMH, no health issues. I am feeding EC grass and I was also feeding EC joint. I was feeding the joint for a preventative. He is on a organic grass hay that we make ourself. I was considering changing him to horse tech highpoint grass and glazen lite. Do I add a joint supplement, I am very confused if he should be on a joint supplement, is it good to add for preventiative measures, I am a avid trail rider and also do arena work. I would be interested in your thoughts on what I should feed my horse. In his stall his hay is in a nibbble net. And gets hay outside durning the winter months. He is a easy keeper. Thank you so much I tend to over anyalize what is best for my horse, just want to make sure he is getting what he needs.
