Food for Forage: Psyllium

Will your suggestion regarding psyllium benefit a 15 year old mare with PSSM? Thank you.

Hello Linda,

Yes, actually it would help since psyllium reduces the amount of glucose that enters the bloodstream. So, while PSSM horses are more insulin sensitive rather than insulin resistant, the goal of reducing blood glucose levels is still the same.

Provide 1/3 cup of Psyllium husks per meal, as a good guideline.
