I was on that bumpy ride. I also found out that I don't get seasick, but I'm not ashamed to say I ate a lot of crackers. I remember the destroyer escort that was with us. They all crawled around on their hands and knees and ate nothing but cold cuts for days. I think the wave height was 35 feet at times.

I recall a return trip from the Med, I believe it was after the Beirut fiasco, that we ran into a storm off Southern France. The waves were so high that they flattened the armored plateing around the forward 5 inch 38. We hit the same storm again later after leaving Gibralter. This time we split 2 seams and an expansion joint. An LST traveling with us lost two Duece and a half trucks over the side.
