Linking to a .pdf

I keep getting this message
Multiple Choices

The document name you requested (/eccentrics) could not be found on this server. However, we found documents with names similar to the one you requested.
Available documents:

/eccentrics.pdf (common basename)
Please consider informing the owner of the referring page about the broken link.

So what did I do wrong? Sure if I click on the /eccentrics here in the message it does go there, but why won't it link directly?
TIA

Re: Linking to a .pdf

Couldn't find the link on your site, but it certainly sounds as if you try to create a link to a non-existing /eccentrics instead of the file that is actually there /eccentrics.pdf ?

But maybe I misunderstood. I mean, why would it be a surprise that the link doesn't work. The only surprising thing about that is that the server is considerate enough to suggest something.

Re: Linking to a .pdf

To link to a file you must have the FULL file name including the extension. A name without an extension is assumed to be a folder so by linking to /eccentrics what you are saying is look for file index.html in the folder /eccentrics.
