Visit the henri chapelle cemetary a few times a year and always wandered about the story behind the men. Thank you for the great work and I will surely spend a few moments at John's grave. If anybody knows the story behind some of the other men burried there I would be glad to hear them

A great site. My Great Uncle was also in John's Division. His name is Isaac Menchaca, 101st Airborne 502nd. I do not know what company he was in. I am trying to find any information on him. He was killed January 14, 1945. One day after John and he is buried in Luxembourg. His ID was 38257356 and he went into the service from Texas. My thoughts are with him and also the Webb family and all other families who had a relative that did not make it home.

Salut Jules,
J. Fransquet

The 101st flew over us as we waited off the coast of Normandy to hit Omaha Beach. The C-47s wiggled their wings and flashing landing lights in a Vee for Victory as they passed over us. We brought a lot of their wounded back to English hospitals on on our LST ( Coast Guard LST 27 ). We lost a few guys on Omaha Beach on June 8,1944 when trucks of the 175th AT Co. hit a mine at our ramp. The poor souls burned alive. I shall never forget their anguished screams long after they died and their charred bodies covered with the incoming tide at Omaha. I am featured on several other website dealing with D-Day and have published war genre books about D-Day and the years thereafter. I can't help but think that the boys in the 101st were used up needlessly as they were often the most experienced fighters. Many guys in the 82nd and the 101st did not come back. Hundreds of our guys in the Amphibs lie in the cemetery back of Omaha Beach today.
