Re: Moving horses from upstate AL to midstate SC

Hello Ann,

Do you perhaps have my book, Feed Your Horse Like A Horse? I have an entire section in Chapter 17 -- Stress and Behavior on preparing your horse for travel.

It's more than I can go into for this response, but in general, you want to make sure he is getting all the nutrients he needs by feeding forage free-choice, along with a comprehensive vitamin/mineral supplement to fill in all the nutritional gaps that exist in hay. And two to three weeks before travel, start giving him extra vitamin E (1.5 to 3 IUs per pound of body weight), flaxseed meal, magnesium, B vitamins, and a probiotic.

If you would like to set up a pre-travel consultation, you may find that helpful.

All the best,

Ann
I have five horses who currently live near Huntsville AL and who I will be moving to Aiken SC in the near future. What kinds of things should I do diet wise to help make my horses' move as stress free for them as possible? Thank you in advance!
