how long does it usually take to get your lisence as im trying to get mine as quickly as possible how many lessons would be approved?

You are looking at around 20-40 lessons. And dont forget the theory test and booking time. Also it will take longer if you fail etc..

I would expect 6 months in total

It depends on how quickly you adapt to driving. I took 8 lessons with an instructor, and was fortunate to have my own car. I wouldn't listen to the person saying 20-40 lessons.
If you can, find a nice cheap car, and a member of your family brave enough to teach you, and have a go as much as you can. Don't pick up their bad habits though, the driving instructor tends to know a bit more!
